SPRING WORKSHOPS

Responsible Conduct in Research Training: February 2nd-3rd, 2010
This workshop, designed by the Research Office for grad students and postdoc Fellows, will provide information on a variety of topics relating to the proper conduct of research and an overview of University and federal compliance issues. There will also be sessions on effective preparation of job search documents, public speaking, the patent process, authorship issues, and researching funding opportunities.
  • Participants may register for the entire seminar or for individual modules. Each module will have a separate non-credit course number, and participation will be noted on a student's transcript. Students completing all four of the half-day modules will receive a certificate of completion. Lunch will be provided each day.
  • Please note that NIH- or NSF-funded students need to attend and should register for sessions 1a (Introduction to RCR) and 3a (Regulatory Issues in Research) unless they have already completed them.
  • To register: http://www.udel.edu/researchoffice/rcr/
Grant Writing Workshops
The Office of Graduate & Professional Studies and Morris Library will provide a professional development workshop series for graduate students entitled “External Fellowships and Funding 101.” Workshop attendees will learn the “how-to’s” of locating funding sources; strategizing for the application process; and crafting successful proposals. The sessions will be hands-on and problem-based. Students should expect to end the workshop with a clear and tangible plan for completing a fellowship or grant application in the immediate future.
  • Registration will be on a first serve basis. Please contact Mary Zielinski (zielm@udel.edu) to register. Graduate students are encouraged to sign-up early since spots will fill up quickly.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops with wireless connections.
  • In addition to the half-day professional workshops, the Office of Graduate and Professional Education can bring fund-raising and proposal-writing sessions directly to you. Facilitated by Vice Provost Debbie Hess Norris, these 90 minute sessions are geared to the needs of each department and program and will inspire graduate students to be their own best fund-raising advocates. Please contact Mary Zielinski (zielm@udel.edu) for more information.

Did you know?
The GSS website is undergoing a major over-haul. Thanks to some dedicated members, the website will eventually be chocked full of quality information for new and current graduate students. In order to facilitate announcements more efficiently, we will be using the GSS Blog as a means of communication more regularly. One of the nice features about using a blog (in contrast to Facebook) is that an RSS Feed is available to keep you current on each new post. You can subscribe to this blog via an RSS Feed Reader (Google Reader is simple and free!) and be updated every time a new post happens. We truly appreciate your patience while the website gets up and running. Please add our feed to your reader or check it out in person!
